“I formed lifelong friendships with both Americans and French students who became like family to me on both sides of the ocean. The stage also gave me the kick in the butt to become fluent in French! When I arrived for my first lesson with Barbara, I remember suddenly feeling so relieved that I didn’t have to be tense or nervous - she put me at such ease, and made me actually feel good for the first time about playing. Barbara had an unmatched knack for connecting with students of any age from anywhere, and she made me feel heard and understood, not only with my musical studies, but with my teenage angst, and generally about life. In the most tumultuous years of my adolescence, Barbara was a grounding, maternal figure who guided me musically and emotionally. I am eternally grateful for all she did for me, and think about her every day.”

“There are so many special memories. To be given the opportunity to study music in the countryside of the south of France is indescribable! We were given the freedom to explore our personal journey as a musician and the time to practice and incorporate it. We created strong bonds that gave you the confidence to perform and express yourself in ways that aren’t available in the typical college environment. Mrs. Krakauer had the ability to make you feel like the most important person in the room and that is not a common characteristic. She gave you the confidence you needed to believe in yourself and that is something I will never forget. I am so thankful for my time I got to spend with her and will cherish those memories.”

Carrie Walsh Ederly, professional violinist & private teacher, Pittsburgh, PA

“I just remember how warm and inviting she was, always. There was never any fear even if I felt under prepared for a chamber music lesson with my brothers. She was truly someone special and will be in my memories forever, not only as a mentor but as a mother. Some of my fondest memories from the stage include the nights that we would walk up to the Chateau and enjoy the view of the town under the moon and stars.”
